The Leopard C1 Main Battle Tanks returned to Canadian based Armoured Regiments in 1993 after fourteen years of NATO service in West Germany with the Royal Canadian Dragoons and the 8th Canadian Hussars in 4 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (4CMBG). The Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), the Royal Canadian Dragoons, and the 12e Régiment blindé du Canada were each equipped with a Squadron of Leopard C1s. The Leopard C1s faithfully served their crews until 2000 when the turrets were replaced by ex-German Leopard 1A5 turrets creating the upgraded Leopard C2 Main Battle Tank.
